It’s one of the most commonly asked questions, which is better, smoking or vaping?
You may not realise, but there are over 9 million vapers in the United States alone. Now more than ever, vaping is expanding at an exponential rate around the world. It’s one of the most common questions any new vaper asks, what’s better, smoking or vaping? But it’s one of the hardest to answer. Sure, there are some things which you can compare, but there are also some things which can’t be compared.
Smoking is already well known to cause serious health problems. The biggest cause of health problems are the chemicals in cigarette smoke and what these chemicals can do to both the person smoking and the people around them. These chemicals can lead to cancer, bronchitis, and other chronic respiratory diseases and illnesses. Smoking can also contribute to aneurysms, heart attacks, and stroke. Any form of smoke inhalation, not just cigarettes can cause health problems.
Research from the UK has found that vaping could as much as 95% less harmful compared to smoking cigarettes. Vaping doesn’t produce smoke or tar like traditional cigarettes. Some studies have found that vapers are inhaling less than 1% of the dangerous chemicals they would if they smoked cigarettes. This is a similar amount to what you would experience if you used a nicotine spray.
When you buy a vaporizer, the cost is always going to be more than a packet of cigarettes or a pouch of tobacco. A packet of cigarettes is anywhere from $25 to $45 per pack depending on where you live compared to $30-40 for a basic vaporizer. A good sub-ohm vaporizer is going to cost you around $100.
At first, it may sound a lot more expensive, but a good vaporizer could last you anywhere from a few months to a few years. Whereas if you’re smoking, you have to buy those packets of cigarettes over and over again. All you need to buy to put in your vaporizer is the dry herb or whatever you prefer to vape. How much you spend on dry herb is up to you as there is a lot of variety, but with cigarettes, one brand of tobacco is roughly the same price as the rest of the brands. Vaping is also much more efficient compared to smoking as you get more from your dry herb and don’t lose as much because there is no combustion.
Vaping takes the points on both health and cost. The only thing which vaping may not be as good for is socialising, but that’s quickly changing. While smoking together may seem like fun, smelling of smoke and smoking in a room or car is not such an attractive prospect. A lot will come down to personal preferences, but overall vaping takes the win. If you had to have a vice, then we would be choosing vaping over smoking every time.
